Old blends with new: A traditional farmhouse cottage reinvented

We had the pleasure of revisiting this gorgeous country home that is one of our entries into the 2022 Master Builders House of the Year competition.

We love the result of the finished home; a modern edit of the traditional country cottage that was once positioned on site. The new home and rests perfectly in the gorgeous established rural setting.

Karaka country home entrance

Our creative homeowners wanted to replicate the country feeling of the farm cottage that was originally on the site.

Modelled on the original 80 sqm cottage the newly built home is 286 square metres. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a separate toilet, large open plan living and separate media room. A large family laundry room offers plenty of practical storage space.

The original cottage was moved off site, less than 1km up the road to neighbours to make way for the build of the new 286 square metre home.

High stud throughout the home creates a warm and inviting sense of space. Two large verandahs either side of the home capture the morning and afternoon sun.

A wood burning fireplace takes pride and place centrally in the entry and main living area.

A modern take on a traditional farmhouse, this home has the best of both worlds. Romantic detailing throughout is balanced with modern features and function.

The master suite has a timber detailed feature wall leading to the walk in wardrobes.

The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed with generous showers, floor to ceiling tiles and a free standing bath in the family bathroom.

The wood paneling detail is a further nod to tradition along with a calming neutral colour palette; complemented by a few bold splashes of colour, we simply love the statement wallpaper!

A soft and neutral palette throughout is welcoming, with a clever splash of quirky feature wallpaper that brings delight to the children's room and powder room.
